Electrostatic painting is a technique that has been used for over 50 years to create high-quality finishes on metal objects. It involves the use of an electrostatic charge to attract paint particles to a grounded metal surface.
First, the object to be painted is thoroughly cleaned and dried to ensure that there is no dirt, grease, or rust on its surface. Once the object is clean, a Ransburg No. 2 Electrostatic Spray Gun that is designed for on-site application charges the paint particles as they are sprayed, and the charged particles are then attracted to the grounded metal object. This creates an even, uniform coat of paint on the object, which is then baked in an oven to cure the paint.
There are many benefits to using electrostatic painting over traditional painting methods. One of the most significant advantages of electrostatic painting is its efficiency. Because the paint particles are charged, they are attracted to the metal object with a force that is much stronger than gravity. This means that less paint is wasted (overspray). This application can be performed in slightly windy conditions.
Another benefit of electrostatic painting is its durability. The electrostatically charged paint particles bond more tightly to the metal surface than traditional paint, which creates a finish that is more resistant to chipping, scratching, and fading. The paint used is also considered harder than traditional DTM (direct to metal) paints. This makes electrostatic painting an ideal choice for balcony railing found on condos and hotels, window and door frames, patio furniture, and industrial metals.
